General Baggage Advice & Prohibited Items

When packing your luggage there are a few things you need to remember about. Most of the airport rules and regulations concern things which are not allowed to take either with your carry-on luggage, or your main luggage. The most obvious prohibited items include: illegal drug, explosive materials or weapons. There are, however, also other – probably less obvious – items and substances you should not take with you, or they will be confiscated. Below we present you with the list.

When packing your checked baggage, remember not to take the following things: money-related items, expensive jewellery, laptops and expensive electronic devices, medically related items and things like: keys, ID cards, passports, eye glasses, art, business documents and collectible items. For your own good, you should have these in your carry-on baggage and have them with you all the time during the flight. Remember than it sometimes happens that the baggage may get lost, and in that case, the airlines are not legally obliged to compensate you the loss of money, jewellery or a laptop. With medicines and drugs, even a relatively small delay may have hazardous consequences.

Other restrictions concern the amount of liquid you are allowed to take on board in your carry-on luggage. Typically, the passengers cannot bring more than 1 kilogram of liquid or gel, and that includes the following products: toothpaste, perfume, gels, cosmetics, creams, body olives, conditioners and sprays. But remember, each item cannot exceed the capacity of 100ml, and they all have to be packed in a transparent plastic bag.

The restrictions apply in the USA and all EU countries, regardless of where the passengers are travelling to. Exceptions to this rule include: prescription and over-the-counter drugs, eye drops, life-sustaining liquids, water for passengers suffering from medical conditions, breast milk, baby formulas and water for very little children.

There are no restrictions concerning cosmetics in a solid form, like solid deodorants, lip balm, lipstick, etc. Remember, that once you have passed through the security check, you are allowed to buy all the cosmetics or liquids and similar product you may need, regardless of their size.
